Ramachandra Rao Begur

Begur Ramachandra Rao is currently the Education Specialist at the UNICEF India country office, New Delhi. He leads the overall Policy and Planning Education result thematic area at the UNICEF education section with a focus on gender and equity and system strengthening including thematic areas around improving the learning of children, teacher education, climate change, and other curricular areas of school education.

Working in the field of Education for over 25 years, during which he has worked in close collaboration with national and state governments, civil society organizations, and university departments/institutes of education in evolving solutions to challenges in education. He works in close collaboration with national and state governments in the development of evidence-based result oriented education plans. He has contributed significantly in scaling up child-centered pedagogy, designing and developing several innovative learning improvement programs and strengthening the Educational Management and Information system in the country.

He was part of the Teacher Education sub-group of the National Curriculum Framework- 2005.

Prior to joining UNICEF, has been a ‘Faculty’ at the Centre of Advanced Study in Education, MS University of Baroda, supporting teacher preparation and development programs and guiding several researchers in the field of education.

He has a Doctoral degree in the field of Education with a specialization in Emotional Intelligence and the professional development of teachers. He has also presented various conceptual and research papers at the national and international conferences.
